Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2007. 219 pp. $25.99 Lambert Zuidervaart's latest book, Social Philosophy after Adorno, attempts, in general, a critical retrieval of Theodore Adorno's critical theory for contemporary ethical, social, and political thought. More particularly, Zuidervaart's aim is to place Adorno or, better, Zuidervaart's own Adornian proposal alongside pressing contemporary issues, not the least of which is the issue of democratic globalization. As might be expected, Zuidervaart believes his post-Habermasian Adornian critical theory achieves something other critical theories do not accomplish as well, namely, an understanding of social theory that "emphasizes both collectivity and normativity in a global context" (175). To accomplish his task, Zuidervaart's work moves along two primary planes: reconstruction and construction.
